The Association of Australian Decorative and Fine Arts
Societies (ADFAS) have commenced a special project to explore the roles of
Mechanics' Institutes and Schools of Arts in Australia. They have invited
members to explore Schools of Arts buildings and their roles in their local
communities. Their stories are on the ADFAS website (http://www.adfas.org.au).
An illustrated account of the Launceston Mechanics' Institute has been
contributed to the project by Maureen Mann;
